Endurance athletes of all kinds should mark May 17 on their calendars and plan a trip to Pokagon State Park in Steuben County. On that day, the park will host the eighth annual Pokagon State Park Triathlon/Duathlon, sponsored by Trifort Triathletes in conjuction with Americamultisport.com, and a 5K benefit run. Activities begin at 9 a.m., and all events will be staged at the park’s CCC shelter. Participants will receive a gift bag with a race T-shirt and event-related gear, and can attend post race festivities and a picnic. New to the triathlon/duathlon is an aquabike event that features swimming and biking, but no running. For more information on the triathlon/duathlon and aquabike events, including registration information, fees, and volunteer and sponsorship contacts, see americamultisport.com. The fourth annual Steve Parker/ALS 5K Run/Walk will start at 9:45 a.m. The run/walk honors long-time running and fitness enthusiast Steve Parker, who died from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Registration for the run/walk costs $20 and can be done at americamultisport.com. Registration packet pick-up and advance registration will be Friday, May 16, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the park’s Potawatomi Inn, main lobby. Participants also can register on race day at the CCC Shelter from 7 to 8 a.m. However, participants are encouraged to register in advance online. For lodging at Potawatomi Inn, visit IndianaInns.com, or call (260) 833-2012 or 1-877-768-2928. For Pokagon camping information, visit camp.IN.gov, or call 1-866-6campIN.
