At 10:00 a.m., head out to meet the forest on a Discovery Hike. This 60 minute walk over moderate terrain will show some wild plants used by people to survive, and plants to avoid. Find clues left by animals; learn how to Leave No Trace so others can enjoy the woods. Comfortable walking shoes recommended. Meet by the Concession building. Between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., visit our Touch Table in the beach area and see how animals have adapted to life around Bear Creek Lake. Lots of items to get your hands on, like a beaver stick or a turkey feather! At 3:00 p.m., come to Waterworld and have a look at life under the surface of the lake using dip nets and magnifiers. If you prefer, enjoy our self-guided activities such as GPS Adventures, or the Channel Cat Interpretive Loop Trail all day and every day. All the staff-led programs are free today, so get your kids out to a Virginia State Park and play.
