Fifth grade students from Jefferson Elementary School in Pocatello, Idaho are going on a field trip this May! The school received one of fifty NPT park scholarships for outdoor education and will be traveling to Craters of the Moon National Monument in conjunction with their study of plate tectonics and the rock cycle. Jefferson Elementary School received their scholarship after fifth grade students wrote thoughtful responses to prompts asking how a field trip would help further their science education, and in turn, how they could help the park during their time there.
“A lot of these students wouldn't have the opportunity to go to Craters of the Moon. So many of them, you ask them, and they don't go too far away from Pocatello,” remarked Jason Winward, principal of Jefferson Elementary School.
