Celebrate Kids to Parks Day in Claytor Lake State Park with a series of Survival Programs.* 11:00 a.m. - Survival Skills @ the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D Do you know what to do in an emergency situation? Can you find North? Apply first aid? Find an edible plant? Identify a venomous snake? Learn these skills and more playing our Survival 101 Skills Game. Everyone one will receive a Claytor Lake State Park Survival Guide to aid in their quest. 1:00 p.m. - Shelter Building @ the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D Create a shelter for yourself or your group using natural materials found in the park along with materials provided by the rangers. We may practice our knot tying skills along the way 3:00 p.m. - Flint & Steel Fire Starting @ the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D Learn the 'Secrets of the Ninja" as you create your own small fire using flint and steel provided by park staff. Kids of all ages can easily learn this skill and receive their Fire-Starting Certificate! 5:00 p.m. - Roaming Ranger @ throughout the park Watch for a ranger with an interesting mini-program. What will it be this time? Animals? Plants? Something mysterious? 7:00 p.m. - Welcome Campfire @ the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D Meet Claytor Lake State Park's live reptilian volunteers as you learn about the reptiles you may encounter in the park. *The Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D, the site of today's programming, is currently only 'walk-in' accessible due to Bathhouse renovations. Parking is available in the Beach Overflow Parking Lot and the Campfire Circle is just a 1/4 mile walk away on Poplar Leaf Trail. Please follow the directional signage to the Campfire Circle.*
