Discover paddling basics with the guide of a ranger. This program provides a low commitment opportunity and does not require you to paddle an entire trail. Paddling Basics is a great opportunity to practice paddling before committing to a longer experience. In this program we will discuss boating safety, how to get in and out of the boat, and basic paddling strokes. A ranger will be present in case you get stuck or need help. When: 10am Where: Meet at the Walnut Slough Day Use area in the Walnut Ridge Unit. Bring: Water shoes, appropriate attire, plenty of water, your own kayak/canoe or rent one (first come, first served). Youth participants must be accompanied by an adult. Reminder: There are no restrooms near the launch so plan accordingly. This program is weather dependent and may be canceled if conditions are unfavorable. Keep in mind that even though these are guided opportunities, you participate at your own risk.

Cost: Entrance to the park requires the purchase of a $4 day pass or a Texas State Park Pass. Children 12 and under are free.
