CORDELL HULL BIRTHPLACE STATE PARK 1300 Cordell Hull Memorial Dr Byrdstown, Tennessee

Meet at: Bunkum Cave Loop Trail Head. Registrations: Join Park Ranger Josh Welch for a trip inside Bunkum Cave where we will spend several hours exploring! Join Park Ranger Josh Welch for a trip into Bunkum Cave as we explore the interior of the cave system! We will meet at the Bunkum Cave Trail Head at 10:00 AM and make our way down the trail to the entrance of Bunkum Cave. The hike to the cave is about a half mile in and then a half mile back to the parking lot once we are finished caving. There is no repelling or ascending required within the cave, but there is a reasonable amount of crawling involved within certain portions. The interior of the cave is 55 degrees Fahrenheit, so if that sounds chilly to you, be sure to bring warmer clothes. Be sure to bring plenty of water and sturdy shoes. It is also recommended that you bring a change of clothes, including socks and shoes, as the ones you wear in will be wet and muddy when you come out. The cost of this program covers helmets, headlamps, batteries, and kneepads that are provided by the park as well as maintenance to keep them in good shape. If you want to bring your own flashlight as well as a pair of gloves, you are welcome to do so! There are no restrooms, so be sure to try and take care of that before we head off. The trip is generally planned for four hours, but it is common for our trip to last a little longer. Bunkum Cave can become flooded and unsafe if there is rain in the days leading up to or the day of a planned caving trip. In case of inclement weather, we will try to reschedule everyone to a different weekend that works best for you. If you are unable to attend a different date, we will gladly offer you a refund. You will be contacted by the park if your date needs to be rescheduled.
