Centennial Park Green Sweep Litter Pick-Up: TSU Students Come Together for Community and Care
On Friday, April 4, 2025, Tennessee State University students gathered for the “Centennial Park Green Sweep,” a service project TSU’s National Park Trust College Ambassadors hosted in partnership with the Centennial Park Conservancy. Twenty students participated in a litter patrol event dedicated to keeping one of Nashville’s most well-known parks clean and welcoming.

The morning began with a shared sense of purpose as students arrived ready to serve. Equipped with gloves and trash bags, participants spread throughout designated areas of Centennial Park, working together to collect litter and support ongoing conservation efforts. The atmosphere was both productive and uplifting, with students naturally connecting as they moved through the park.
Throughout the event, students were able to connect as peers but also engage deeply with their surroundings. Being outside allowed everyone to step away from their usual routines and appreciate the environment in a more intentional way. The experience helped build a stronger appreciation for Centennial Park, a space that is near and dear to many in the TSU community.

As the group worked, conversations flowed easily, and new connections were formed. It became more than just a cleanup effort; it was a shared experience of service and awareness. Students supported one another, stayed engaged, and took pride in contributing to the care of a public space they often visit and enjoy.

By the end of the three hours, the impact was visible across the park. Pathways were cleaner, trash bags were filled, and the group could see the difference their teamwork had made. More importantly, students left with a stronger sense of community and a renewed appreciation for environmental responsibility.
The Centennial Park Green Sweep served as a reminder that service can also be a moment of connection, reflection, and growth.
