On Saturday, September 4th, local Air Force and Space Force service members and their families gathered for an exciting day at Red Rock Canyon Open Space. This special event was made possible through a collaboration between the National Park Trust, FrontRange Climbing Co., and USAA, offering a unique opportunity for participants to experience the beauty and challenge of outdoor climbing.

The adventure kicked off mid-morning as the group met with the experienced climbing guides from FrontRange Climbing Co. Eager to start their day, participants laced up their climbing shoes, buckled into harnesses, and secured their helmets before making their way to the climbing site. Walking among the towering red rock formations, the group was in awe of the stunning natural landscape surrounding them.

Upon reaching the climbing area, the participants were introduced to climbing safety protocols and learned how to properly belay—a critical skill in climbing. With the guidance of the expert instructors, everyone had the chance to scale multiple routes, testing their strength and perseverance on the iconic red walls that define the open space.

The day was filled with both challenges and triumphs as climbers of all experience levels embraced the thrill of the climb and the camaraderie of the group. By the end of the event, participants not only gained new skills but also shared unforgettable memories with fellow service members and their families. This event was a testament to the power of community, adventure, and nature in bringing people together for an unforgettable experience in the heart of Red Rock Canyon.

Partnering for the first time in 2024, USAA and National Park Trust are working together to engage Texas and Colorado-based active duty families in meaningful outdoor experiences that work to improve overall health & wellness, with a special focus on mental health.

This was the fourth outdoor recreation event provided by our new partner, USAA! Through these events, families are able to enjoy the great outdoors, learn new skills, and create lasting memories, reinforcing the invaluable role national parks play in promoting recreation, education, and family well-being.
