On October 14th, Bowie State University students were excited to canoe on Cash Lake. Fourteen students had signed up, transportation was organized, and everything was ready to go… until the weather decided to not cooperate. We were told we wouldn’t be able to go on the lake today.

Instead of canceling the trip and just going back home, we decided to make the best of the situation. Many students had never been on a hike, so we set off to explore Patuxent Research Refuge. The hike was a success, and we learned a lot about the wildlife surrounding the park. We were able to see Cash Lake before heading home. While it wasn’t the outing we expected, it was still a successful one.
