We kicked off Family weekend with an outing on October 25th to East Bay Bike Path, a local park within walking distance of Brown University’s campus. The local outing brought together seven students from different class years and concentrations. We picked up trash along the East Bay Bike Path as an act of stewardship. Our group collectively filled twelve trash bags on our three-mile walk. We collected pizza boxes, large chunks of styrofoam, and numerous water bottles. It was especially important that we collect this trash as the East Bay Bike Path runs along the Seekonk River, which flows directly into the Atlantic Ocean. As Brown students in Providence, we felt it was important to help support environmental stewardship efforts along the East Bay Bike Path as many community members benefit from the beloved bike path.

The weather was glorious on Friday afternoon, which enabled us all to connect as we collectively picked up trash. We are proud of the trash we picked up together. Our participants were blown away by the impact they can have by picking up trash. Multiple bikers stopped biking to thank us for picking up trash. It felt wonderful to spread the message of National Park Trust when we were thanked. Our participants are eager to participate in more National Park Trust outings.
