Did you know that all U.S. fourth graders are eligible to receive a free Every Kid Outdoors (EKO) pass, granting them access to all federally managed public lands, waters, and shores for an entire year? This pass covers their school year and the following summer!

As we kick off the new school year, we’re shining a spotlight on the Every Kid Outdoors program, which has inspired countless children to explore the wonders of nature. The program provides free passes to young adventurers, helping them build lifelong connections with the outdoors. For educators and parents, it’s a chance to foster curiosity, hands-on learning, and environmental stewardship in a fun and engaging way.

Here’s how to get started with your EKO pass:

Step 1: Visit everykidoutdoors.gov to get started – it’s quick and easy!

Step 2: Encourage your fourth grader to dream big! Create a nature diary of all the things they’d like to see and do with their pass. At the end, you’ll get to read your story back and get excited for the year to come!

Step 3: Print your paper pass and plan your first trip! Many locations will exchange it for a durable plastic pass once you arrive.

Step 4: Present your pass at the park and start exploring!

Are you or do you know a fourth-grade educator? Teachers can get passes for your entire class! The Every Kid Outdoors program offers the opportunity to request passes for all students and includes educational guides focused on citizen science, environmental stewardship, and lessons on native land. These guides are tailored to make nature education exciting and accessible for your students.

Whether you’re planning a family trip or a class outing, the Every Kid Outdoors pass opens the door to endless adventures and lifelong memories!

Get your pass today and start exploring. Where will your next adventure take you?
