Finding Connection Beneath the Surface at Mammoth Cave
In September 2025, families in partnership with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) gathered at Mammoth Cave National Park for a day of connection, reflection, and discovery. The experience began with programming designed to bring families together and create space for shared support while surrounded by one of the country’s most unique and awe-inspiring landscapes.

Following the programming, participants took part in a guided cave tour led by National Park Service rangers. As they moved through the winding passageways of Mammoth Cave, families learned about the park’s rich natural and cultural history, the science behind its vast cave system, and the importance of preserving these underground resources. Exploring the cave together offered moments of wonder, quiet reflection, and connection—both to the land and to one another.

This meaningful experience was made possible through the continued partnership between National Park Trust, the National Park Service (NPS), and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). Together, these organizations provide healing outdoor experiences that support families who have lost a loved one due to military service, helping them find comfort and community in our nation’s public lands.
