On Saturday, September 20, 2025, the National Park Trust, in partnership with the National Military Family Association, welcomed military families from the Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland area for a memorable kayaking tour along the Potomac River.

Families gathered on a bright Saturday morning and were greeted by the National Park Trust team and local kayaking guides. After checking in, securing their boats, strapping on life jackets, and grabbing paddles, families set off to explore the river together. The tour launched from Key Bridge and wound its way around Theodore Roosevelt Island, where participants learned about the island’s rich history while spotting wildlife such as turtles and herons along the shoreline.

As the group paddled further downriver, they were treated to stunning views of the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Kennedy Center, an unforgettable perspective of some of D.C.’s most iconic landmarks.

After coming off the water, families gathered for a picnic lunch, sharing stories and building connections with fellow military families.

We are deeply grateful to the National Military Family Association for their partnership and commitment to helping military families connect with one another while enjoying the beauty of our nation’s public lands and waters.
