This past weekend, Panthers Outdoors came together for an impactful community service event, where we dedicated time to cleaning up the Dunbar community and park. It was an inspiring day filled with teamwork, engagement, and a shared commitment to giving back to our local neighborhood.

We had 10 dedicated students show up, ready to make a difference. To maximize our efforts, we split into two groups, covering different areas of the community and park. In just about an hour, we managed to collect an impressive 4 ½ bags of trash using 13-gallon garbage bags, leaving the area noticeably cleaner and more welcoming.

To keep the energy high and the students motivated, we added a fun twist: a mini competition to see which group could clean their area the fastest. It sparked some friendly rivalry and made the cleanup even more engaging.

Afterward, Samia (Student Ambassador) took a moment to talk to the group about the National Park Trust and the HBCUs Outside Organization, sharing the importance of outdoor spaces, environmental stewardship, and how we as HBCU students can continue to make a lasting impact both on campus and beyond.

Overall, the event was a success, not just because we cleaned up the area, but because we built a sense of camaraderie, purpose, and pride in our community.

Panthers Outdoors looks forward to hosting more events like this, where we can combine service, education, and a bit of fun, proving that small actions can lead to big changes.
