On the morning of November 8th, tensions were high and spirits even higher as we gathered at South Hills, one of Helena’s most scenic and accessible disc golf courses, for a disc golf tournament. Twenty-two Carroll College students showed up ready to compete for the mystery top prize, none knowing what it would be, but all determined to earn it. South Hills offered the ideal setting for the day: a free, community-focused outdoor space just minutes from campus that encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to get outside and play.

Despite the cold morning, the energy stayed strong. We divided into five groups based on experience level to keep play moving smoothly and remain considerate of others enjoying the park. The range of skill levels made for an engaging dynamic across the course. Some groups took a more relaxed approach, offering tips and support as players worked through tough holes, while the more experienced groups held a steady, focused competition. Two brothers quickly emerged as front-runners, staying within a stroke or two of each other until the final hole decided the outcome. The last putt landed cleanly, securing the win and earning a well-deserved round of applause.

We wrapped up with a brief awards ceremony, where the winners received their prizes, generously supported by the National Park Trust, and any competitive tension settled into friendly conversation. The event brought students together in a meaningful way, blending outdoor recreation, community, and just the right amount of competition. Everyone headed out in good spirits and even made it back in time to catch the second half of the Saints football game. Go Saints!
