In April, families gathered at Redwood National and State Parks for a day of remembrance, connection, and conservation. This powerful experience was made possible through a continued partnership between the National Park Trust, the National Park Service (NPS), and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). Together, these organizations provide healing outdoor opportunities for families who have lost a loved one due to military service. Through shared time in nature, participants find space for reflection and renewal.

Despite the rain, morale was high as families came together to help install a seasonal footbridge, an important project that improves access to park trails during the wet season. This effort will benefit many groups, but specifically those at the nearby Wolf Outdoor School.

Afterward, an NPS ranger led the group on a hike through the towering redwoods. Along the misty trails, families spotted banana slugs and took in the awe-inspiring beauty of the forest, making lasting memories.

This outing at Redwood National and State Parks marked the second of several planned TAPS events in 2025. Through these experiences, the National Park Trust, NPS, and TAPS continue to offer military survivor families the opportunity to find comfort in nature, build lasting memories, and foster a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
