Bear Creek Lake State Park 22 Bear Creek Lake Rd. Cumberland, Virginia

This national event celebrates kids and the outdoors. By getting to know nature when young, they will become the guardians of our environment in the future. The park will offers several ranger-led activities through the day suitable for the curious. Bird Buddies at 9 a.m. will help kids recognize bird diversity in plumage and behavior. Discovery Walk at 1 p.m. will be a walk over moderate terrain to see what we can find and learn about life in the forest. Spectacular Snakes at 3 p.m. will raise awareness of the snakes found in Virginia, explore snake safety, and introduce the park Corn Snake. Meet at the Legacy Wayside for those activities. The Bear Creek Lake Junior Ranger brochure is available free at the park office and gives youth 5 to 12 years old a self-guided opportunity to earn a junior ranger badge. A brochure download is available on this page. Groups can contact bcguide@dcr.virginia.gov to inquire about special programs on Kids to Parks Day, or the following Sunday, May 22, 2022.
