Hayfields State Park 524 Hayfields Lane McDowell, Virginia

So many adventures happen on the Bullpasture River, but what’s happening below the water surface? With a snorkel and/or mask, swimmers can see wildlife, driftwood, odd-shaped rocks and stones, and more. A ranger will be available to guide participants on how to use a snorkel and where to swim. The river water is teeming with a variety of aquatic life including snails, crayfish, numerous fish species, and macro-invertebrates. Snorkels and under-water viewing equipment will be provided. We do not have wetsuits or water shoes. Please wear clothes you are comfortable getting wet in. Closed-toe footwear that can get wet and a life jacket are recommended. All participants under 15 years old must be supervised by an adult at all times. No registration is required. Rain stirs up the river bottom and makes viewing underwater difficult and increases river flow rates. If conditions aren't safe the program will be cancelled. Please check the website for any cancellations.
