The National Park Trust invites you to join us for an introductory fishing lesson at historic Fletcher’s Cove, located along the C & O Canal in Washington, D.C., on May 20th, 2023. Expert fishermen from the Washington D.C. Department of Energy and the Environment will provide each family with fishing poles and an introductory lesson on using them. Then we’ll hit the water and try our luck casting into the Potomac for Shad fish. The annual “Shad Run” on the Potomac River, when large schools of fishing from the Atlantic swim up the Potomac to spawn, is legendary in the DMV fishing community, and Fletcher’s Cove is the premier destination to experience it! Bus transportation will be provided to Fletcher’s Cove from the Bowling Center at 9:00 am and return at 1:00 PM. Free catered lunch will be provided at Fletcher’s Cove from 11:30- 12:30 while fishing on the Potomac.
