National Park Service (Retired)

Oakland, CA

Greg Gress was the Realty Officer and Chief of the Land Resources Division for the National Park Service’s Pacific West Region (CA, HI, NV, OR, WA, and Pacific Islands) before retiring in 2021 after 38 years of federal service. During his tenure with the Park Service, Greg’s team successfully acquired over 200,000 acres in the region’s parks and helped establish the following new park units: Cesar E. Chavez NM, Honu’uuli NHS, and Tule Springs Fossil Beds NM. Along the way, National Park Trust played a significant role in acquiring several diverse and historically significant properties, including a fish hatchery at Redwood NP, a 1870s mining claim at Sequoia NP, and one-room schoolhouses at Pinnacles NP and Mojave NP.

Born into a military family, Greg spent much of his youth overseas in Japan, France, and the Philippines before returning to the States, where he attended high school in Northern Virginia. Greg attended the University of San Francisco and San Francisco State University, studying government and history. He is 44 years old, happily married, and the father of three daughters. Greg enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with his dog and grandchildren. He is a U.S. Army veteran.
