Gwen’s “Ikigai” (life purpose) is to drive social economic equity through her “kuleana” (responsibility)*. With roots in Japanese and Hawaiian culture, Gwen grew up on O’ahu as a 4th-generation descendant of plantation worker immigrants. As stewards of the land and with respect for the interconnectedness of life, she was drawn to the sand, surf and mountains through camping and hiking as far back as she could remember.

Gwen’s restless curiosity drew her to study and live in Salzburg, Tunis, Guam, D.C., Las Vegas, and Seattle, and travel through dozens of countries. She crafted a career out of continuous learning and working on some of the world’s biggest problems: climate change and social inequities.

Gwen’s career began in consumer insights and market research in the mid and west Pacific, which drew her to Nevada. There, she was hired into the brand marketing and government affairs divisions of Caesars Entertainment, where she built an industry-leading strategy around sustainability and social impact. She was most recently at a mid-sized national management consulting firm, overseeing a sustainability practice, before moving on to open her own advisory firm.

She is a passionate supporter of youth organizations, the outdoors, and civic participation among under-resourced communities. Gwen has been a long-time admirer of the National Park Trust.

*”Ikigai” is Japanese for “reason for being”, and “kuleana” is Hawaiian for “responsibility and privilege”.
