Miriam Mazel

Miriam grew up in the Washington, DC area. Her love for the outdoors and appreciation of history started as a child playing in Rock Creek Park and visiting historic sites in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. She attended George Washington University, graduating with a B.A., in Political Science and Journalism. From there, Miriam moved to Colorado to attend the University of Denver, College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctorate degree.

Living in Colorado and working for three federal land management agencies, has given Miriam a profound appreciation of public lands. The majority of her 34-year career has been focused on land conservation, real estate transactions, and land management. Miriam’s professional positions include: Deputy Chief, Land Resources Division for the National Park Service, Deputy Director of Lands and Realty Management for the U.S. Forest Service, Regional Realty Officer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Natural Resources Planner for the National Park Service. 

Miriam also worked for Great Outdoors Colorado as Senior Program Manager for Land and Water Conservation. In this position, she awarded and managed all components of the conservation grants program funded by state lottery revenues. Early in her career, Miriam worked for a Denver law firm where she primarily practiced water law. She also holds a Master of Science degree in Range Management from Colorado State University.

In her free time, Miriam enjoys traveling, hiking, visiting national parks, reading, and horseback riding. As the Senior Land Acquisition Strategist, she supports National Park Trust in acquiring parcels of land adjacent to or inside parks and ensuring their transfer to the National Park Service. She is enthusiastic about working to expand the National Park System for the benefit of all.
