Recreation Day at South Carolina State University
On April 22nd, we hosted our Recreation Day, a collaborative event that brought together our program as National Park Trust Ambassadors, with the Health and Physical Education Society and the Education Department. This event was not only an opportunity to connect with one another, but also to highlight the importance of outdoor recreation and active lifestyles.
We began by introducing the National Park Trust and explaining the different outdoor-focused activities and opportunities we provide. Many attendees expressed interest in getting involved, which was exciting to see. It reinforced the value of creating spaces where students can learn, engage, and grow together. We also took time to emphasize the importance of spending time outdoors, something that often gets overlooked in our busy daily routines.
The second half of the event shifted into action as we moved outside to the courtyard for a series of recreational games and activities. There was a mix of competitive and more relaxed, friendly games, allowing everyone to participate in a way that felt comfortable to them. One of the highlights was seeing participants come together to play double dutch, bringing energy, laughter, and a sense of community to the space.
Overall, Recreation Day was a great success. It showed how impactful stepping outside can be, not just for physical activity, but for building connections and creating positive experiences. More importantly, it reinforced that this event is only the beginning. There are endless opportunities to get outdoors, stay active, and build community, and we look forward to continuing to promote and expand these experiences.
