Aodhan Lane
Georgia
Hi, I am Aodhan Lane. I am 12 years old and I am a homeschooler in the 7th grade. I live in Georgia but I like to tell people that I am from everywhere because we travel a lot.
When I was 5 years old, my mom took me on a 3-month camping trip. This was my first experience in the national parks. Since then, I have been to over 350 National Park Sites. I have visited national parks in the US, Canada, Denmark, and France.
I love our National Parks because as a person with disabilities, they are a place where I can find peace, unless there are mosquitos. My favorite thing to do in a National Park is to talk to park rangers because they have the best information about the parks. I also like to volunteer. One time at Cape Lookout, I helped clean the beach. There was a lot of garbage. I found a tent, a mattress, toilet seats, water bottles, and balloons. As a Student Ambassador, I want to help teach people how to protect our parks and not litter.
I recently made a movie called Mission: Junior Ranger at San Antonio Missions National Park. It is about becoming a Junior Ranger during the pandemic and how to explore, learn, and protect the parks.
I promise that as a Student Ambassador, I will share how parks are important to people with disabilities and advocate for more inclusivity for us, especially people with invisible disabilities like me. I will share why are parks are important for us to explore, learn, and protect, and how to become involved in the junior ranger programs.
